The Centerville Historical Museum sits on Main Street, among the perfectly preserved 19th-century houses of famous sea captains. Its antique building contains 14 exhibit rooms, including a Colonial kitchen, an authentic schoolroom, five 19th century period rooms, some featuring elegant antique furniture, a maritime art gallery, and six seasonal exhibition galleries.
The museum’s collections focus primarily on the 19th century but include items from a range of periods. Most of the pieces have a direct association with the history of Centerville and Cape Cod. Changing exhibits provide insights into historical contexts and explore themes and issues, often topical, of historic and artistic significance. One of the museum’s most noted collections features gowns, costumes, uniforms, clothing, and accessories of the 18th-20th century. Guided tours are provided, taking about an hour.
